CRICKET FRATERNITY SWEPT THE BOARD AT MALAWI SPORTS COUNCIL AWARDS

Cricket sport category is on the rise after scooping numerous awards at Malawi Council of Sports Awards happed today in Mangochi. Some of the awards that Cricket family won are  Sports Association of the year, Coach of the year and National Team of the year going to Cricket under 19. Individuals who won under Cricket sport competed with some of the well known sports disciplines in this country like football and netball. And Cricket national team under 19 Coach Gershom Masimba Mtambalika beat some of the notable coaches in well known sports in Malawi such as Coach Peter Mponda and Christina Mkwanda. FORMER BLUES RE - UNITED

Misheck Bottoman  has reunited with his former Manoma  Joseph Kamwendo  at Creck Sporting Club after signing for the club on a 2 years basis. Misheck Bottoman played with Creck Sporting Club coach Joseph Kamwendo at Mighty Wanderers before their break away. Bottoman who was at the time before signing a free agent is happy for a new chapter under the mentorship of  Joseph Kamwendo . MUNTHALI TO START A NEW CHAPTER

Former Flames shot - stopper  Brighton Munthali  has clinched a three years deal with  Joseph Kamwendo's  Creck Sporting club. Brighton Munthali a former Blue Eagles , Wizard FC and Silver Strikers has dumped the latter after the expiry of his contract with the Eagles.  Creck Sporting Club Chairperson Mr Muhammad Selemani , has welcomed the player in their club house premises where he signed the contract papers.   His remarks after signing Brighton Munthali said " I am very excited to sign with this club and I expect more things from this journey started". SILVER STRIKERS TALENT POOL TAPPED BY NATIONAL TEAM

Flames coach  Callisto Pasuwa  has add another names to the national team squad, this comes as Flames expect to host Comoros in CHAN qualifiers on 2nd March. The names of players who have been added to Pasuwa's squad are Chawanangwa Gumbo (NBB), Uchizi Vungani (SS), Binwell Katinji (SS) and Emmanuel Allan ( MB). FAZILI PLEA FOR MORE GAMES

  Scorchers  coach Lovemore Fazili has called on  Football Association of Malawi  for more friendly fixtures. The coach has put more focus on playing more games as  Scorchers  will play Angola in Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Coach Lovemore Fazili The coach said " we expect and plead with Football Association of Malawi to arrange more friendly matches as we expect to meet with Angola in an anticipated match that will give us green light if we are going to play for WAFCON next year"  The coach's statements and his concerns were delivered to the media following the arrival of the Scorchers from Zambia were they played two friendly matches with Copper Queens. SCORCHERS REVERSED THEIR FORTUNES

Malawi women's football team the  Scorchers  managed to retaliate their first friendly loss to  Copper Queens  by smashing the 3 - 2 in a match held a Reiz Park in Lusaka, Zambia. The host started on a high note and they managed to find the back on the net on 6th minutes from Rachel Kundananji connection following a ball that hit a cross bar from a thunderous shot taken by Zambian defender Martha Tembo. The  Scorchers  responded well in first minutes of second half with a goal from Rose Kabzere. The Scorchers worked another magic on 56th minutes that also resulted in a goal from Faith Chinzimu and two minutes later the Scorchers scored another goal to comfortably lead by 3 - 1 , thanks to Sabina Thom's effort. After some changes made by Copper Queens coach Nora Häuptle brought Mercy Chipasula who provided an assist to Nachulu's  80 minutes goal. The game ended 3 - 2 in favour of Malawi Scorchers. KATSWIRI UNDER 19 STARTS ON A HIGH NOTE

African Herbal Katswiri under - 19 has commenced in just ended week as we saw plenty of talent in youth football. In the first match of the day we saw Extending Hope taking on Nyambadwe United in this tournament under the Blantyre District Youth Football. The match ended 3 - 2 in favour of Nyambadwe United under 19 and match was played at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe. Extending Hope Under - 19

EAGLES GIFTS ANOTHER PRESENT TO IG

Blue Eagles Football Club are champions of King Kabvina trophy after defeating Ekhaya Fc on post match penalties in a final held in Mponela. Blue Eagles Fc started the match on a high note but Ekhaya Fc managed to control the game and they tried to attack Blue Eagles on counter attacks, but after 90 minutes all teams settled for a goalless draw. On penalty shootout Blue Eagles Fc converted all  4 penalties but Ekhaya's Osman Bakali's last penalty was saved by Eagles goal stopper Joshua Waka to crown Eagles their third Silverware. CHAWINGA SISTER'S SILENCED

Malawi women's football team the Scorchers lost 2 - 0 to Copper Queens in a friendly match held in Zambia. Reiz Park was fully packed in the afternoon of Sunday 23 February to witness this an anticipated match, the game's scores resumed from yesterday's match that was stopped at 21 minutes due to bad weather as Copper Queens were leading by 1 - 0 thanks to a goal from Coming to Sunday's afternoon Copper Queens continued from where they stopped in yesterday's postponed match. Although  Scorchers  were playing good football but they failed to capitalise the chances created and on 77th minutes   Copper Queens  scored from a direct free well played by Rachael Kundananji. After the match coach Lovemore Fazili said"  We played better than Zambia and we created so many chances but we failed to convert them.We have learned alot from this match and we will come back stronger in the second match". AN EXODUS AT BULLETS

Nyasa Big Bullets Fc  has been hit by frequent departure of their players opting for fresh endeavours. This development has been taking place this recent months as we have seen a number of players opening exit doors in their club's camp, we have seen Gomezgani Chirwa, Nickson Nyasulu, Precious Sambani and just recent Stanley Billiat. And today Nyasa Big Bullets Fc has  confirmed another departure from the club as Antony Mfune has said goodbye to the people's team  Nyasa Big Bullets Fc , following his injury last season, Antony went on a surgery in January this year and after that the player has decided to leave the red camp opting for fresh start. Confirming the development Nyasa Big Bullets Fc has bid farewell to the young man as he has decided to leave the club and extended their heartfelt good wishes to player as he is about to start afresh, they said this on their official social media platforms. EKHAYA MAKING STATEMENT IN TRANSFER MARKET

Newly promoted Blantyre based team  Ekhaya Fc  is  very busy on market roping in new faces in their squad. This development comes as Ekhaya Fc has today unveiled three players to join their team as they aim to remain in the top flight league in the upcoming football season. Players that Ekhaya Fc has unveiled today are Innocent Msowoya from Bangwe All Stars, Fanizo Mwasambo from Bangwe All Stars and Christopher Gototo from Silver Strikers Fc. Fanizo Mwansambo Christopher Gototo has signed a season long loan contract while Innocent Msowoya and Fanizo Mwasambo have signed 1 year and 2 years respectively. TOUGH WEEK: CHELSEA FALLS TWICE IN SEVEN DAYS

Brighton and Hove Albion  have managed to regain their form after beating Chelsea FC in one week. Brighton played Chelsea FC in FA cup 4th round in which they managed to win 2 - 1 to seal their spot in 5th round but on Friday, Premier league fixture reunited the two teams on the same pitch the  Amex stadium  in which  Chelsea Fc  was beaten 3 - 0 thanks to goals from Mitoma and Minteh with a brace. The win for Brighton meant they managed to seal two wins in one week against the London giants. Commenting in post match interview Chelsea gaffer  Enzo Maresca  said " i am very very disappointed with the result because there 14 games remaining and if we won we could have narrow the game with third placed team and because we lost the gap is now big". ANTONY REGAIN HIS TOP FORM

Manchester united player who is playing for  Real Betis Fc  in Spain on loan is enjoying his trade there as he has regained his form. Antony after signing with Betis has managed to feature in all three games and has managed to score 3goals and provided 1 assist, he has also managed to be man of the match in those three games played. Speaking to media Antony said " I am very very happy here. And I have been very well received by everyone and this has been an incredible start". CITY PULLED OFF AN UPSET

Manchester City  are back to their normal setting after defeating Leyton Orient 2 - 1 in fourth round of FA cup at Brisbane Road. The Cityzen came from behind as the host scored first through Ortega mistake in the first half of the match, and coming into second half , Pep Guardiola's army turnaround the scoreline as they equalised quickly by Khusanov before Kelvin De Bruyne's late strike. This means Manchester City are through to fifth round of FA cup. Speaking on post match interview Man City gaffer on Nico Gonzalez first goal mistake he said " Nico is welcomed to English football and how their referees are and I should congratulate Leyton first goal as it was brilliant....."  This means Manchester City will take on Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round of FA cup. PLYMOUTH ARGYLE WITH A CUPSET WIN AGAINST REDS

Lower ranked team in EFL championship Plymouth argyle Fc  defeated the Mersy side giant  Liverpool Fc  by a goal to nil in FA cup fourth round at Home Park stadium. Plymouth Argyle solo goal was scored by Ryan Hardie on the 58th minutes, Liverpool tried to get the equaliser but thanks to Plymouth Argyle defense for being very resilient and watchful. After the match Plymouth Argyle coach Miron Muslic  said" I am very very happy and at the same time emotional as he was playing with Liverpool in the best cup in the World and he further said that was the moment to shine and show what his team has". Creck Sporting Club  has acquired the services of Mulanje based team  FOMO Fc  attacker Hassan Hussein. Hassan Hussein has signed for Creck after having an impressive debut season with FOMO Fc, following  FOMO's relegation Hussein has signed 3 years contract deal with Creck Sporting Club which is worth K4.5 million. BULLETS FACES INJURY WOES

Nyasa Big Bullets  midfield maestro  Frank Willard  has suffered an injury on his right foot during pre- season training on Thursday.  Confirming about the news Nyasa Big Bullets expressed deep concern about the news and they further explained that the player will be out for four weeks nursing his injury. Mersy side giant  Liverpool FC  has managed to turn tables around after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4 -0 at  Anfield Stadium in Carabao cup semi-final. Liverpool were going in the second leg of the semi-final with a goal behind as they lost 1-0 in London, the goals were scored by  Coady Gakpo ,  Mohammed Salah ,  Dominik Szoboszlai  and  Virgil Van Dijk , the win guaranteed Liverpool to play in Carabao final with  New Castle Utd  on 16 March. MPINGANJIRA ROPES IN HIS BACKROOM STAFF

Bob Mpinganjira  who has recently signed a one year deal with Blantyre heavyweight Mighty Wanderers has named his backroom staff which comprise of MacDonald Nginde Mtetemera as first assistant coach and Sherry Msuku as second assistant coach. Mtetemera who was at Creck Sporting Club in a just ended season was the first name Bob gave to Wanderers Board and in other  categories he has also named Alfred Manyozo as Data analyst and Francis Mlimbika as Fitness trainer, these two are some of the new faces roped in the team. OSAGIE PART WAYS WITH SILVER STRIKERS

Silver Strikers Football Club  has parted ways with Nigerian goal minder Friday Osagie based on mutual agreements. Osagie signed for Central Bankers in second round of previous season of TNM super league from relegated Bangwe All Stars. Osagie was influential in last season Silver Strikers title winning under the mentorship of immediate past coach Peter Mponda. Commenting on the matter Silver Strikers released a statement confirming about the development saying "they are wishing Friday all the best in his future endeavours". FAM FOOTBALL AWARDS REALESED NOMINATIONS

Football Association of Malawi  has released nominations of different categories in FAM football awards set to happen on 21 February 2025 at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel, in Blantyre. The categories released include Best Women Coach which have three people nominated: Thom Nkolongo(Ascent academy), Maggie Chombo(Nyasa Big Bullets Womens), Linda Kasenda(Civil Women's), and on Best Men's Coach: Peter Mponda(Silver Strikers), Eliya Kananji(Blue Eagles), Kallisto Pasuwa(Nyasa Big Bullets). FAZILI NAMES SQUAD

Malawi women's football team the Scorchers head coach, Lovemore Fazili has released names of players he expects to be in Scorchers camp. The 30 members squad will regroup on 7 February 2025 to start the preparations ahead of WAFCON qualifiers. Scorchers are expected to be in camp although their opponent withdrawal from the competition, the camp will help in searching and securing a friendly match to keep the girls in good shape. FLAMES EXPECTED TO KNOW THEIR FUTURE

Confederation of African Football  has released dates they will conduct Total Energy African National Championship (CHAN) qualifiers draw. The event will take place on Thursday next week and the venue to be announced later. SCORCHERS PROCEED WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE PITCH

Malawi Women's football team the Scorchers have automatically proceed to the next round of 2026 Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers after their rival in the first round withdraws. Congolese Football Federation released an official confirmation of the withdrawal of their team in the competition.They said they have withdrawn due to lack of competition and preparations. Football Association of Malawi has confirmed the development and they have stated to organise camp and friendly matches for the Scorchers to stay focused. THE QUEENS BREATH A SIGH OF RELIEF

Malawi women's netball team the "Queens" have breathed a sigh of relief after a tight win over Uganda. The Queen's lost to England in their first match of Vitality Netball Nations Cup which is underway in England, the Queen's lost 62 to 36 baskets in their big test match. But after the defeat yesterday's evening  the Queen's regained their character as they defeated Uganda 59 to 45 baskets to revive their hopes at the ongoing tournament. After the matches coach Peace Chawinga Kalua praised her charges for showing resilience as they were behind in the first quarter of the match. Through the release of the official statement Silver Strikers has chosen 22 February to be the date they will hold their gala awards after a successful season  The stated event will recognise outstanding and dedicated individuals in the just ended TNM super league. THE RETURN OF VETERANS

Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers former players have organised a two nation derby tournament slated to take place on  1 and 2 march. This tournament format we shall witness two derbies as Blantyre rivals Maule and Manoma will go head to head in a mouth watering matches and also the Zimbabwean counter parts they will also play their own Harare derby. Speaking to ex-bullets players who were also present at a meeting Raheem Ishumael "when we were starting this committee many people labelled it as a failure but we are now able to organise matches and we fit and ready for the tournaments but we just call help from sponsors and well wishers". This development keeps on improving as we witnessed another Blantyre derby last year before TNM super league started. And the chairperson of the committee Kelvin Moyo said the main aim is to provide assistance to former players, "many former players face financial and health challenges after retirement, and we want to support them...

CHAWINGA EXTENDS HIS TENURE

Scorchers forward Temwa Chawinga has extended her stay in National Women's Soccer League in United States of America. Temwa Chawinga signed for Kansas City Current in 2024 which we saw her having an impressive debut season at the club. She has signed a deal until 2028 after breaking a number of records in the top flight league, Temwa became first player to score 20 goals in a single season and also first player to win golden boot and Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the same season.
